In January, Trust in Yellow lost a great friend in Phil Carder, a lifelong Southport fan and our long-serving treasurer, who sadly passed away having suffered from leukaemia.

Phil was a true gentleman, he carried out a huge amount of work for the Trust, and he is greatly missed by everyone involved in the Trust and at the club.

This Sunday, Phil’s nephew, Jacob, is running the Great North Run in memory of Phil, with all funds raised going to Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.

It will be Jacob's first long-distance race and he says it is a fitting opportunity to raise awareness and money to help others affected by leukaemia.

You can support Jacob by sponsoring him on his JustGiving page here

All donations will be gratefully received.

The fare is just £19 for members, £14 for juniors and £24 for non members which is a significant reduction in last season's prices.

Trust in Yellow would like to thank everyone who attended the quiz night after Saturday’s match against Dover Athletic and helped make it a success.

The Trust was very pleased with the turnout at what was a fun event with rounds on general knowledge, TV and film, music, sport and Southport FC.

Congratulations to the winning team, consisting of Nicola Hudson, James Cave, Les Rooney and Andy Rea.

Prizes were also given to the teams finishing in second and third place, which were collected by Pam Orme and Mick Hopkins respectively.

The quiz was the latest event in the Trust’s new Get Involved! programme, which continues with a Race Night and Meet the Players after the match against Torquay United on October 10 in the Grandstand Bar.

Tomorrow (Saturday), Trust in Yellow hosts the latest in our new Get Involved! programme of events with a quiz night after the home match against Dover Athletic.

The quiz will take place in the Grandstand Bar, starting at 5.30pm, so it is easy for fans to stay behind after the game.

All supporters are encouraged to attend for what promises to be a fun evening.

It is a team quiz - and your team can consist of as many players from two up to a maximum of six and entry is £1 per person.

It is designed to be a fun quiz, with rounds on general knowledge, music, TV and film, sport and, of course, Southport FC. There will be prizes for the winners and the event is expected to last around two hours.

Your team can be entered into the quiz at the event, so please come along to support the Trust.

As part of the Trust's role in bringing supporters together, it is the aim to put on at least one event after a home game every month during the season.

The Trust’s new Get Involved! programme began in August with a Meet the Manager with Paul Carden and the Class of ‘05 championship reunion.

To get as many people as possible involved, the Trust has chosen to host a range of different events, which continues with a race night on October 10 and a karaoke and disco in memory of supporter Mark Heaton on November 14.

Once again this season, Trust in Yellow will be running the popular Player of the Month award.

Every month throughout the season, fans are asked to nominate their star performer from the Southport team and one supporter will be selected to make the presentation to the winning player.

And with the first month of the new season now complete, the voting for August's Player of the Month is open.

Although it took until the end of the month for Southport to record their first win of the season, they did so with an impressive performance against Altrincham, with Gary Jones, Liam Nolan and Connor McCarthy on target.

Louis Almond scored the Sandgrounders’ first goal of the season against Gateshead with a fine individual strike and has shown impressive form, as has Matt Challoner in defence.

Or has another player caught your eye in August?

Voting is open until 3pm on Saturday, September 5, and the presentation will be made ahead of the match against Tranmere Rovers on September 15.

You can submit your vote in any of the following ways:

- E-mail

- Text POTM followed by the player’s name and your name to 07861416859

- Complete a voting slip at the Trust office (next to the club shop)

- Tweet @trustinyellow

- Send a message via the Trust’s facebook group HERE

Since the award was introduced, the club's junior supporters have taken real delight in making the presentation to the winning player.

You can nominate yourself, your child or any other friend or family member to present the award by contacting the Trust in the same ways you can vote above.

The Player of the Month award is one of several initiatives run by the Trust to promote greater supporter-involvement and strengthen the link between fans and players.
