Minutes of Trust in Yellow AGM - Thursday 29th August

Apologies: Alan S, Alan J, Julia

1. Brief review of Trust’s activities during the year

Martin ran through the Trust’s activities and achievements of the past 12 months, which included:

Completing the fundraising for the Trust’s share of the floodlight fund.

Providing match updates and introducing player of the month and fan of the month awards.

Providing coach travel to as many away matches as possible as well as an annual weekend away. Thanks to Alan S and Phil for organising.

Cleaning and painting of the Jack Carr Stand toilets. Thanks to Colin for his organisation and work along with all who helped.

Raising £1500 for Macmillan Cancer Research through sales of the pre-season kit masterminded by Julia Urwin.

The Trust also wished to thank Liam Watson for all his efforts and look forward to working with Alan Wright. Thanks to Alan for attending the Meet the Manager session held after the Everton friendly.

2. Treasurer’s report

The Trust’s current balance is £25,574. The major financial commitment for the last couple of years was expected to be a contribution of some £23,000 towards the installation of much needed new floodlights, which has yet to happen. The Trust is currently the club’s 5th largest shareholder having acquired a total of 12,194 shares.

3. Membership report

The Trust currently has 208 members with 20 new members joining since January. Unfortunately Bill also reported that some have chosen not to renew due to the lack of progress with the floodlight project.

4. Vote on the election of board members

Rob Urwin and Phil Carder were both re-elected to the board. Paul Isenwater has stood down due to work commitments but has kindly agreed to continue with his secretarial duties. The Trust also received a couple of requests from members present to join the board and they will hopefully be elected on within the next month.

5. Minutes of last meeting and matters arising

Nick Catterall has kindly agreed to contact Tony McMillan to find a suitable date to present him with his 200 games award.

6. Discussion on possible involvement in lottery or 50/50 draw

If the Trust were to proceed with this project the majority of members present suggested they would like to see it happen in conjunction with another sports club in Southport. Enquiries will be made with regards to this before the next meeting. Most present were uneasy about being involved with bigger out of town clubs such as Everton or St Helens RFC whilst some felt running a lottery would not be worthwhile.

7. Trust support of club in coming year

Haydn Preece has informed the club that unfortunately the proposed youth team in conjunction with Southport College will not be running this year due to a lack of numbers. Haydn also expressed a desire for the club to sponsor a player to go coaching in local schools and while the Trust is keen to do this more information will be sought before a decision is made. Members present voted for the Trust to sponsor Danny Hurst this year and would also be in favour of purchasing a new mascot costume to replace Sandy the Lion.

8. Future events

A ‘fan of the season’ award has been introduced details of which are now available on the Trust website. The annual race night will take place in early October and a quiz night is also in the pipeline.

9. Coach Travel

A profit of £171 has been made on the first three trips of the 13/14 season. This however will be needed to subsidise the Tamworth coaches which have 62 bookings thus far. The two main contenders for the annual weekend trip are Gateshead (Newcastle) and Cambridge. With both of these matches

With both of these matches taking place towards the end of the season a decision will be made nearer the time.

 11. Any other business

Charlie Clapham has asked the Trust to remind supporters that the club could face serious sanctions in the event of another smoke bomb incident. Both he and the Trust ask supporters to be vigilant and report any inappropriate behaviour to a steward.

 12. Dates of next meetings

 19th September – Board

 24th October - Members
