Bingham's Boys transcript

The main feature of our Bingham’s Boys event was when six of the legends took to the stage to speak to fans about that famous FA Cup run 50 years ago and their time with the club.

Ronnie Smith, Tony Beanland, Terry McDonald, Alan Spence, Colin Alty and Fred Molyneux spent around an hour sharing some magnificent tales in front of a packed Grandstand Bar.

A transcript of the main feature of event is HERE. Thanks very much to James Cave for typing up and putting together the transcript.

We hope to have video clips of various parts of the event available in the next few days.

A day to remember for Bingham's Boys

Yesterday, we hosted a fantastic event to celebrate Southport’s magical FA Cup run half a century ago.

Bingham’s Boys: The Heroes of ’66, took place in a packed Grandstand Bar after the match against Braintree Town - 50 years and a day after the 2-0 home win over Cardiff City in the fourth round of the cup.

The Trust was thrilled to welcome all seven of the surviving members from that famous match against Cardiff, as well as four other players who featured during that season.

The highlight was undoubtedly the appearance of the great Billy Bingham, who the Trust was delighted to welcome to the post-match celebrations.

All of the players, plus Bingham, received honorary Trust memberships to recognise their considerable achievements during 1965-66 and in the following seasons during what was a golden period for the club.

Highlights were shown of the win against Cardiff, before six of the legends took to the stage to share some wonderful stories from the cup run and their time with the club.

The Trust was very pleased with the turnout from supporters, with the Grandstand Bar packed to capacity. A number of fans travelled from different parts of the country to be at the event and we’d like to thank everyone who attended and supported it.

The Trust would also like to thank the former players for making it such a fantastic day for us all.

Various people helped in the planning and on the day of the event, and the Trust is very grateful to everyone who assisted.

Photos of the event are on the Trust’s facebook page.
