This Saturday - Bingham's Boys: The Heroes of '66

This coming Saturday, we host a special event to celebrate one of the greatest ever seasons in Southport's history.

Bingham's Boys: The Heroes of '66, takes place after the match against Braintree Town in the Grandstand Bar from 5.30pm.

This date is special because it is 50 years and a day since the Southport team managed by Billy Bingham won their FA Cup fifth round tie against Cardiff City in front of a crowd of 14,230 at Haig Avenue.

We're delighted that all seven of the surviving members from the team which beat Cardiff will be in attendance. Other players from that season will also be there.

The event will start with BBC highlights from the first half of the win over Cardiff before the players will share their memories from that famous cup run, including a question and answer session. The event ten concludes with second half highlights.

Entry is free, so please come along as we celebrate one of the most memorable achievements by a Southport team.

Please note that, even if the match against Braintree is postponed, the event will go ahead as planned from 5.30pm.

Trust in Yellow's ten-year badge

Trust in Yellow is very pleased to unveil its new ten-year badge.

2016 is a very special year for the Trust, as we celebrate our tenth anniversary, and to mark this milestone, we invited local school children to design a new badge.

The Trust was delighted to receive a total of 144 entries, which were narrowed down to a shortlist of 23 before supporters were asked to select the winner from four finalists.

Our new badge is designed by Harriet James-Hodges, from Ainsdale St Johns Primary School, whose entry came out on top in a poll run during January.

Harriet’s design will be used as the Trust’s badge throughout our tenth year in 2016 and will be the focal point for our celebrations during the year ahead.

The Trust would like to thank all the schools and children who took part. Not only did the number of entries received surpass expectations, but the quality of the designs was of the highest standard and choosing a shortlist and four finalists was a very difficult task.

It was clear from the entries that so many children had put a lot of time and thought into their designs, and the Trust was thrilled to see such enthusiasm for the competition.

A presentation will be made to Harriet at the next home match against Braintree Town.
