LIVE MATCH UPDATES SPONSORED BY TRUST IN YELLOW

Southport supporters will continue to have access to the club’s live match updates service this season thanks to sponsorship from Trust in Yellow.

The updates facility had been unavailable for fans during the opening matches of the campaign due to charges introduced by service providers across the board.

The online updates have become increasingly popular with supporters in recent years and, as a result of the sponsorship, the service will remain available to fans for free during matches this season.

Last season, the service proved to be particularly popular from away games, as well as with supporters who live outside of Southport. The coverage this campaign is hosted on a platform provided by ScribbleLive, meaning it can be accessed online and on the go through an app on your mobile phone or tablet.

The Trust’s sponsorship begins this week following a free trial period of one month.

Colin Hill, part of the club’s media team, said: “We started providing updates for Southport supporters through the @southport_fc twitter stream in March 2008, with the account attracting an impressive following, now with over 2,500 followers.

“As online technology advanced, we were able to offer more in-depth updates for Southport supporters via the club’s website.

“The cost of these online services has increased dramatically, and I think it is tremendous that Trust in Yellow appreciate the value of this service for Southport supporters. We regularly attract supporters from all over the UK, as well as various states in the USA and beyond."

The updates, which are available on the club’s official website, southportfc.net, provide rolling text commentary from Southport’s Blue Square Bet Premier games, as well as allowing supporters the chance to interact as the matches unfold.

The sponsorship has been agreed as part of the Trust’s commitment to providing a benefit to supporters and members of the community.

As part of the sponsorship, the coverage will also be used to promote Trust news and events.

A number of clubs in the Blue Square Bet Premier charge for similar services and, to help keep the coverage free, supporters who use the updates are being asked to support the Trust by joining as a member or making a donation via trustinyellow.com.

Trust in Yellow vice chairman Martin Robinson said: “Whilst nothing can beat actually attending matches, not everyone can get to our away games.

“A lot of our exiles who live around the country and indeed the world can’t attend as many home matches as they would like.

“For these people the excellent updates service is a great way to follow the team’s progress and so keep them involved with the club. The Trust is really pleased to support this service and help fans in this way.”

The Trust hosts its annual Race Night and Meet the Players Evening on Saturday 6 October, following Southport’s home match against Nuneaton Town, and part of the profits from the event will go towards the sponsorship of the match updates.

The evening starts at 6.30pm, with race sponsorships available at £25, horses £3 and jockeys £2. Supporters who use the updates service are being asked to support this event. To take up any of these sponsorships e-mail Rob Urwin at programme@southportfc.net or call or text 077900-41514.

The live updates service is available of a matchday at southportfc.net.
